I WOULD LIKE TO BE MENTORED…

A mentor who is interested in imparting knowledge in others.

Whilst reading the list of men and women who made it to the Top 40 under 40 list in 2019, I came across a shared pattern by the individuals who graced it. These gurus had a bigger guru male or female, one who in one way or the other held their hand nudging them in the right direction.

They had and some still have an individual who picks their brain. The individual strengthens their talent and actively pushes them out of their comfort zone. All this is for the final product which is success in the different paths chosen be it tech, finance or entrepreneurship.

Don’t get me wrong. I have wanted a mentor before all this hullabaloo but after reading these stories I’m more determined than ever to get one. I’m shopping around for one.

My requirements include;

  1. Time, I’d like to have a human and not a hamster on a roller coaster one who has time to squeeze me into their schedule.
  2. Someone with experience in my field that is Public Relations.
  3. Interest, I would be pleased to have a mentor who is interested in mentoring. One who would like to impart not only knowledge but also a sense of direction in others.

My mentor should not be a control freak. He or she should at least let me lead my way as they offer help and not the other way round.

My prayer is that before the first quarter, I’d have found my ideal mentor for the journey ahead needs to be a successful one.
