He loved God. So much that it was a no brainer when in high school he was called to a seminary. Just like his father paster Adebayo, he would go through studies in the seminary before enrolling in a university abroad to further his pastoral studies. He was after all the son of the mighty pastor.

His father was known far and wide for a number of things. He was a passionate preacher and orator. He had access to the white man and his goodies. This has to be attributed to the grandfather who accepted the white man in his land. He broke bread with him, by doing so he ushered his children and his generations to come into a life of a myriad of opportunities. His kids and grandkids would attend the best Catholic schools in the land. They would be known across plains over mountains and valleys as the preachers family. Guka had insured them all or so he thought!

Men too.

Many years later his last born grandson would face the most disturbing ordeal. One that made him question God, his sincerity to mankind and the sacred relation that his family shared with him. Peter like all the other men in the family attended a private Catholic boarding school. He had alot of resources at his disposal which he made use of. He also gravitated to the 123s more than the ABCs, he doubled up as the school's choirmaster. This seemed like the right thing to do, he’d been brought up in a Christian home right? It was during one of the choir rehearsals with the school father that it happened. He touched him! This was inappropriate. The 16-year-old in him knew it was but could not speak out. Who would believe him? The same man who gave out the holy sacrament and to him sins were confessed? This would not make sense. So he kept it a secret.

The advances would escalate from a mere touch to the actual deed. He was sodomized. His face pressed on top of a Bible. He clearly remembers the verse, Jeremiah 39:11.

“I alone know the plans I have for you, plans for prosperity and not destruction, plans to give you hope and a future”

Did He?because if He did then that wouldn’t be happening to him.

Every 48 hours a father, son, brother or nephew gets raped. Most of these cases go unnoticed because men or the boys shy away from reporting these cases. Githunguri, a town in Kiambu county has been named the Sodomy capital. In three months,50 cases were reported,5 went to court and only 1 reached the judgement stage. From young boys to old men all of them are preyed on. According to The Star, most men are raped when leaving pubs at night. When the alcohol is still in the system and the men are a tad high from the drinks. They are vulnerable and this is exploited to their perpetrator's advantage. Old men in the village rarely report such incidences to the police as no action is taken. In the said place, more than 10 mentally challenged old men have died after being sodomised.

Preying preacher.

Young schoolboys are hit the hardest. Most of them are assaulted by their relatives who threaten them with murder if at all they were to report. In 2019 a pastor in Kayole was saved by police from an angry mob that had all the intentions of lynching him. He was caught leaving his house with a young boy he’d lured with a cup of tea and sodomized. The preying preacher was arraigned in Makadara Law courts.

Unfortunately for boys, they don't dress provocatively this is the sick and baseless excuse upon which most people defend rapists right? For most boys just like girls, the only mistake they made is that they exist among pigs who take readily take advantage of them when it suits them. My big ask is when will this hit the media? When will it be okay to speak out for our boys? Who will stand up for the young men who go through this daily? This decade is not only for me too but also men too.
