I’m a lover of men. If you have been reading this blog then you will garner that I’m a full-blown meninist. I like the idea of working, cooperating and co-existing with men. I have interacted with a huge number of men in my life. Some were outright jerks, some men where nice, others like my current Boss only want me to prosper and my dad empowered me with education. Of course, I have had men disappoint me, I have been disrespected insulted and one time grooped, yes I have had my share of sexual harassment. The name-calling by touts.

The list goes on and on but what I have learnt is just like women, men are human. Today I’m going to talk about good men. They might be few or many but they are present and they deserve to be applauded. Men like my dad. A farmer who believed in education. My father worshipped schools, having grown up in the colonial era, he understood that the only way one can rise up is by going to school, gain quality education. By doing so, he says I will be able to walk into very many doors, as knowledge is not only power but an eye-opener.

The importance of being an ally.

Good Dads who not only took their kids to school but also raised kids who were not theirs and in doing so they carried the good man-god dad card forward.Good men who gave their wives the best of treatment because they knew that their kids would mirror their behavior and in doing so they ensured a healthy home for all the parties involved.Good men in powerful positions who mentored and nurtured everyone in their space to ensure that the whole team wins. Men who could have chosen to commit sexual harassment offense but ensured that they stayed true to the course. They empowered women in whatever way they can.

Good men who stood up for women. Who understood the importance of he for she.

“To become an ally for women´s empowerment is to also become an ally for men´s empowerment. It is about lifting up all of humanity and about recognizing our unique roles in life and honoring the time and effort of each´s activities and to ensure the respect of rights and access to opportunities for all. It is about collaboration and interdependence, not domination”.~Luis Martin del Campo
