HIJAB AND BALLET.
I was obviously introduced to ballet by the TV. A predominantly white film with girls aged 6–10 who had mastered the art of standing on their tip toes. To say that I was fascinated would down play the feeling .I was elated,I wanted to mirror the girls.I wanted to become a ballerina I wanted to stand on my tippie toes and swirl on one foot.I wanted to dress like a swan and somewhat behave like one.I wanted to become a ballerina.
I was born and raised in the countryside and it’s only after my 18th birthday that I moved to the capital city.In the village your dreams are only as big as your nose. With little to no exposure one is bombarded with work hard and pass your examinations messages from not only teachers but also parents.Extra curricular activities are just that and they are believed to yield nil.Mu ballet dreams were crushed by my mother ,she not only did not understand how in the earth I’d want to dance around naked, since I was a Muslim girl but also where I got the idea.Ballet wasn’t for me and I was to contend with that.
