BLACK GIRL MAGIC
The year is 2200. Black girl magic is no longer a hashtag but a living reality. A black girl, one with lots of melanin can walk down the streets confidently, as she has finally been accepted. She no longer needs to be thick or to be fine but she’s fine even in her thick skin.
The cases of neglect and misrepresentation are no longer an issue for her as she is represented on different issues on Vogue. Her hair is no longer seen as kinky or too tough but an Afro which is the black version of a crown. She no longer wants to be married to a white man in order to get mixed kids who won’t feel inferior for being made of black, because a black king with all his melanin will do just fine.
Her thick thighs and full chest are wanted and desired for the right reasons, not the juvenile one that she’s good for a night. She no longer has to be thick to be enough, her slender body suffices. The black queen is so loved that there’s representation even in the royal family, forget Markle this girl is lupita black.
But the year is 2020 a young black girl still struggles to find confidence in her skin, her melanin is still too dark for the world, too dark for white men and even darker for the black brothers.
Her hair is considered kinky and tough hence dark and lovely’s idea to stock permed products in order to treat the “problem”.The right foundation is still a hustle to find despite FIT ME’s efforts to fit her into a darker shade than she is.
The year is 2020 and as a black girl I’m still struggling to find my magic.
